2023 Red Claw Pinot Noir

The 2023 season brough 'La Nina' weather conditions for the third year in a row. It was a cool and late ripening vintage with low yields and superby quality.

This Red Claw Pinot Noir is bright, juicy and beautifully silky. Crafted following the same principles that guide our Single Vineyard wines.

Displaying the beginnings of graceful bottle development, this 2023 Pinot Noir offers slightly aged characteristics with softened red cherry and raspberry notes evolving toward dried cranberry and subtle earthy undertones. The perfumed aromatics remain lifted and inviting, complemented by a touch of spice and well-judged French oak. The palate is supple and refined, with a silky, seamless flow, showcasing elegance and delicacy alongside a gently matured, savoury complexity and a lingering, finely balanced finish.

Winemaker Notes

Handpicked between 14 - 30 March, with each parcel handled separately in the winery. Hand sorted and carefully destemmed with 10% whole bunches, each parcel went into traditional open fermenters. The wine underwent three days of cold soaking to ensure even and thorough extraction. Batches were on skins for 5-7 days, after which time they were transferred into French oak (500L puncheons) for 10 months, the blend was then assembled and bottled in December 2023. A blend of pinot noir clones MV6, G5V15, 115, 667, ABEL, D4V2, and 114. (Alc 13%)

Tasting Notes

Characteristic perfumed, fragrant aromas highlighted by cherry and red fruits, complemented by a touch of spice and underlying French oak. The long, silky palate has lovely elegance and delicacy, a plush, velvety texture and a finely poised finish.
