2010 Yabby Lake Block 6 Chardonnay
The site, the fruit
These wines reflect our philosophy at Yabby Lake - to craft wines that reflect the spirit of the season and vineyard.
Our wines are not cluttered by a heavy hand in the winery, they reflect the subtle variations in each block’s soil, aspect and clones. As we put the final blend together, if something stands out we take a small parcel and bottle it separately – under our single block label – still allowing the significant proportion to go into the single vineyard wine
The Craft
The fruit was handpicked and whole bunch pressed into tight grain 500 litre French oak Puncheons. Fermentation commenced naturally after 8 days and was completed in 18 days. The wine was matured, without malolactic fermentation proceeding, on lees until bottling in February 2011.
The Result
An intense, racy wine. The aroma is a complex array of citrus, grapefruit pith and floral notes. The palate has a great depth of flavour and texture and is tightly wound together with a precise mineral intensity. The wine finishes pure and long.
